Duke turned 7 months old yesterday. He now weighs 86 lbs. He's growing a little too fast, and has penosteitis, a bone disease that is common in young, growing Great Danes. We knew this might happen when we researched the breed. It sounds more serious than it is. We realized something was wrong when he was limping after a short walk. He limped off and on for a couple of days, then he wouldn't put any weight on his front right paw at all. After the vet completed some x-rays, it was confirmed! Our little boy's bones can't keep up with him.
We switched him to an adult food to slow his growth, put him on bed rest for a couple of days, and gave him some aspirin to relieve his pain. Other than that, he's his same 'ole goofy self! See for yourself!!
