Everybody's Working on the Weekend

This weekend was "Amber and the girls are coming to visit" and "finish the backyard landscaping" weekend. Corky and Debbie graced us with their presence and working hands as well!

Morgan adored Duke and kept him so occupied all weekend that he wouldn't lift his head on Sunday. He didn't even get up to eat! Here she is in his pen with him on Friday night. We promise - no child abuse here, she went in willingly! And yes, his pen is HUGE! He's 5 months and 70 lbs. now by the way.

So after completing the deck a few weeks ago, we were left with this awkward area of grass/mud between the old concrete patio and the new deck. We didn't want to start the deck right off the patio because we thought a flat deck lining up with the concrete would look strange. We had the idea in our heads the whole time of what we wanted it to look like, but were constantly second guessing ourselves since we've never had to make major decisions like this before. Neither one of us is decisive, so we go around in circles a lot waiting for the other to make a decision. Kinda strange seeing as how we are both stubborn too! : )

Anywho, Corky and Dustin worked all day Saturday and a big part of Sunday completing this project. I know it doesn't look like it took a lot of work, but it was! They had to cut up and move the sod to places where our grass was not growing, levelize the dirt, build up the dirt on the hill, put black tarp down, seal the rocks, dig holes for the plants, and put the border rocks down. Not to mention about 5-6 trips to Home Depot, Lowe's, and the place to buy rock. And it was so stinkin' hot!!!! All I did was help carry bags of rock around, help put the tarp down, put the plants in their pre-dug holes, and move around some rock and I was sweating my arse off! It was all worth it. A BIG THANKS to Debbie for babysitting/dogsitting so we could work outside, and big thanks to Amber for packing up her whole house to come visit and pitch in, and an extra big thanks to Corky for working out in that heat and helping Dustin make our vision come alive.
